Filtration Soiling

You may have noticed it in your own home, or the home of a neighbor or friend-dark, dirty-looking lines in the carpet around the baseboards, under doors and on stairs.

What is it? Can it be removed? Will it come back? The dark greyish or black discolorations that occur around the perimeter of rooms and in the doorways of some houses can sometimes be a source of embarrassment and frustration.

Our customers rely on us not only to clean their carpets but also to educate them about how to maintain their carpet. Before we explain what these mysterious dark lines are, we’ll talk about what they are not. Contrary to what you may think, it has absolutely nothing to do with accumulated dust from poor housekeeping. It is not a defect in the carpet. And although some believe it to be mold, it is not. Even pest control companies have been wrongly accused of causing these unsightly lines with their treatments.

So, what IS it? It’s called filtration soiling.

What Others Say

Great Experience. We recently had Van’s in our home to take care of a bad stain on a bedroom carpet- Not only were they professional and thorough, but they weren’t sure that they could eradicate the stain, they did not charge us!!!! Well, the stain came out, and we had them back to do the rest of our carpeted areas! Highly recommend-great quality work, pleasant and knowledgeable staff and trustworthy.

I cannot thank you enough for the magnificent job you did cleaning the soup stain from my chairs. You are a genius and a hero!

I am happy with all the results. Will be scheduling the rest of the tile in the near future, I still cannot believe how good it looks with clean grout. Thank you.

We are in possession of a Chinese needlepoint done on silk that was given to my husband's parents in l938 by husband's father's brother, Uncle Richard, who was a missionary priest with the Passionist Fathers. He served in China from 1935 until he became a prisoner when China fell to communism and was imprisoned for seven years before his release. Over the years, this needlepoint (16" w x 48" long and framed) suffered what appeared to be rather severe water damage running about 15 inches from the top down. This piece had been made especially for Uncle Richard and was something that my husband has loved since he was a small boy. We contacted Vans Carpet Cleaning and they made an appointment to stop just to look at it. With no promise...Ernie took it with him and promised there would be no charge if it could not be cleaned. WELL....Ernie just brought it back to us and it looks WONDERFUL!!! I cried...my husband was speechless!! Ernie tried very hard as he knew the story. I asked him how long it took and he told us three house with Q-tips!!! The cost $149.99 plus $50.00 to preserve it to prevent any future damage. We would have paid so much more!! And we smile every day as we look at it proudly hanging!! THANK YOU VANS CARPET CLEANING!!!
